Street Child

Mission of the organisation

Today, millions of children across the world are unable to go to school - from rural areas that have never had a school, to classrooms that have been destroyed because of disaster or conflict. For children who are in school, many schools are not a good enough standard, with hundreds of students per classroom, a lack of sanitary facilities, untrained and unmotivated teachers, unsafe buildings and inadequate learning materials. Street Child believes that achieving universal basic education is the single greatest step that can be taken towards the elimination of global poverty. We recognise that the barriers to education are complex and interlinked, and our projects focus on a combination of education, child protection and livelihood support to address the social, economic and structural issues that underpin today's education crisis. Wherever we work, we partner with local organisations and communities and take an outcome-led approach. We use evidence to drive learning and the constant refinement and scale-up of programmes that create maximum impact for the most children at the lowest cost. We pride ourselves on going where others don't. This includes conflict affected areas and remote, hard-to-reach areas; places where education interventions are most needed worldwide.
